Edexcel IGCSE ICT

The Edexcel IGCSE ICT (International General Certificate of Secondary Education in Information and Communication Technology) is a qualification aimed at students aged 14 to 16. It provides a comprehensive understanding of how ICT is used in various contexts and develops practical skills in using a range of software applications.

1. Theory of ICT:
   • Digital Devices: Types of hardware and their functions
   • Software: Types of software, including operating systems and applications
   • Networks: Types of networks, network hardware, and communication methods
   • The Internet and the World Wide Web: Internet services, web design, and e-safety
   • Data and Databases: Data types, data storage, database management
   • Impact of ICT: Social, ethical, and environmental impacts of ICT
2. Practical Skills:
   • Word Processing: Creating and editing documents
   • Spreadsheets: Using spreadsheets for data analysis, functions, and formulas
   • Database Management: Creating and managing databases, SQL queries
   • Presentations: Creating and delivering presentations
   • Web Authoring: Designing and creating websites
   • Image Editing: Manipulating and editing images

Assessment

The assessment consists of three components:

1. Paper 1: Written Paper (50% of the final grade)
   • Written examination
   • Tests theoretical knowledge of ICT
2. Paper 2: Practical Paper (25% of the final grade)
   • Practical examination
   • Assesses practical skills in using software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases
3. Paper 3: Practical Paper (25% of the final grade)
   • Practical examination
   • Assesses more advanced practical skills in web authoring, image editing, and communication tools
